The neighbourhood

Living in Camden.

One of London's most iconic and creative addresses — a lively mix of canal-side markets, music venues and Regency garden squares, moments from Regent's Park, King's Cross and Primrose Hill. Bohemian yet historic, it's long been home to musicians, artists and students who want to be at the centre of London's creative energy.

Camden suits those who want to be in the middle of London's creative and cultural life. It's long been a magnet for musicians, artists and independent spirits — and it's exceptionally well placed for students and academics, with UCL, SOAS, Central Saint Martins and the Royal Veterinary College's Camden campus all a short journey away.

If you value markets over manicured squares, and a neighbourhood with genuine character and nightlife over quiet formality, Camden is hard to beat.

The neighbourhood is built around Camden Market and Camden Lock, its sprawling stalls spilling along the towpath of Regent's Canal.

Nearby sit the Roundhouse, one of London's best-known music venues, and the Georgian terraces of Primrose Hill, while Regent's Park, London Zoo and the shops of King's Cross are all within an easy walk.

Start with a browse of Camden Market's stalls and street food, then follow the towpath along Regent's Canal towards the Lock.

Afternoons are made for Primrose Hill — one of the best skyline views in London — or a wander through Regent's Park and the Zoo. Evenings stay lively: think live music at the Roundhouse or one of Camden's famous gig pubs rather than a quiet night in.

Camden is exceptionally well connected. Camden Town and Chalk Farm (both Northern line) sit at the heart of the neighbourhood, with Camden Road Overground close by.

King's Cross St Pancras — one of Europe's largest transport hubs, with the Underground, National Rail and Eurostar — is around a 15 to 20 minute walk, or a couple of stops by tube. The West End is about 15 minutes away, and Heathrow is reachable via the Piccadilly line from King's Cross.
