640East: An aesthetic café and bar created from shipping containers in Montgomery Square. Come for matcha or coffee, stay for a study session: the relaxed setting makes it a useful work-friendly option when you need a change of scenery.
Café Seek: One of Canary Wharf’s more hidden finds and a current TikTok favourite. This independent café is known for high-quality Japanese-inspired baked goods, so arrive hungry and choose something from the counter with your drink.

For an easy weekday lunch, Canary Wharf has plenty of familiar favourites within walking distance.
Choose Poke House for a customisable bowl, Atis or The Salad Project when you want something fresh, GAIL’s for sandwiches and pastries, or Joe & The Juice for a quick juice and toastie.

Caravan: A dependable choice for a relaxed breakfast or healthy lunch. We recommend trying the seasoned rice - simple, filling and genuinely good.
Pergola on the Wharf: Come here when the sun is out. Pergola combines greenery, a spacious terrace, good food and views across the Wharf, making it one of the area’s best places for a long lunch or drinks with friends. It is popular online for a reason.
The Ivy in the Park: An easy option for brunch, dinner or cocktails in the centre of Canada Square. It works particularly well when family or friends are visiting and you need somewhere polished with a menu for everyone.
Nora: For Turkish food, order a selection for the table. Start with the bread and dips, then try the grilled chicken skewers, potatoes and lamb that melts in your mouth. Finish with the chocolate torte.
Barbarella: One for the content girls. Barbarella has cool interiors, careful design details and cute outdoor seating, with plenty of good photo spots. Add a strong drinks menu, pizza and a lively atmosphere, and it is easy to understand why it is trending on TikTok.

Start at The Alchemist for theatrical cocktails, or book Electric Shuffle when your group wants an activity as well as drinks. Its high-tech shuffleboard makes it an easy choice for birthdays and bigger student groups.
For a rooftop view, head to Bōkan. Set high above the docks, it offers a completely different perspective on the Canary Wharf skyline and is especially worth visiting around sunset.
Fitness and wellness in Canary Wharf

Groceries, shopping and everyday essentials
One of the best things about living in Canary Wharf is how little admin everyday life requires.

Canary Wharf is in Zone 2 and has several transport options:

Jubilee line: direct access to London Bridge, Waterloo, Westminster, Green Park and Bond Street.
DLR: useful for Greenwich, Cutty Sark, London City Airport, Stratford and connections across East London.
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers: a slower but far more scenic way to travel along the river.
Canary Wharf is particularly convenient for UCL School of Management, which is based at One Canada Square, as well as Queen Mary University of London and the University of Greenwich. King’s College London is also easily reached via the Jubilee line and Central London connections.
Rush hour can be busy, as it is across London, but students travelling out of Canary Wharf in the morning are often moving in the opposite direction to the largest commuter flow into the business district.
London City Airport is also nearby, while the Elizabeth line gives you a direct route towards Heathrow - a major advantage for international students travelling home or planning a weekend away.
